Type is an organism

typorganism is an interesting site by Gicheol Lee I found looking for typography based illustrations on the net. Gicheol believes that type is some kind of organism. He proves this in his site with a series of communication experiments exploring computational interaction design, which understands typo as some kind of entity that lives in the net which responds to user interactions, evolves with time and is in a way, alive.

I include one of the most interesting examples I have found: the ASCII-0Matic image generator which transforms an image into a ASCII text based image which you can then generate in html.

I am ASCIIified

Freixenet i Scorsese to the Museum

Martin Scorsese’s short film for the ad campaign for Freixenet, developed by JWT Barcelona and which was pretty controversial, has received a prize for Excellence in Publicity in the III Artistic Contest for Creative Advertising: La Publicidad en el Museo, organized Capítulo Español de la International Advertising Association (IAA)

I’m really happy to read this in Anuncios magazine because we where part of the process developing a blog for Scorsese and Freixenet’s short film production followup.

From my point of view, no matter how criticized or admired the campaign was, it was a great approach into what communication could be in the future. They somehow killed the Burbujitas that had been there for may years and they came up with a completely new idea to communicate the product. On the other hand, as a fan of Scorsese and of Hitchcock I really enjoyed the story and I hope it sets a standard for what could happen in the following years in the communication business.

New Jovoto site up and running! Yeah!

Yesterday we deployed the re-design of the jovoto website after some pretty long months of hard work. We really like it. It’s a fluid design that adapts to every screen and there are some fancy new features like the dashboard where the user receives all the activity of the stuff he is following such as users, ideas or contests.

I will soon write a post about how and why the design is done in the way it is.

Hired by Jovoto

After working on some logos for jovoto, being an active participant in the community and winning the Logo contest, they invited me to work with them on the Corporate Communication and the re-design of the actual site.

It is actually a challenging project for Gimmicklab thought designing for designers is not an easy task. So I’ll be working with them for a while until the project is up and running, but always keeping an eye on what’s happening in Gimmicklab. Thought there is lots of work to do there and even Sergio and Marcel are working with us now, you always have to keep an eye on your baby.

There are many ideas flowing in my head on how to design the Jovoto website but I need time to get a wider overview on how create an interface that will not only be attractive but also usable and appealing for creatives.
My main aim will be to deliver a design that will act as a carrier of ideas rather than a design itself. So that will mean hours and hours of synthesizing and simplifying, getting rid of all unnecessary elements, categorizing, differentiating, structuring… And when it’s done, start all over again thought there is always a simpler way to design.

So, hands to work and I’ll post the re-design of the site. It will of course be open to comments.
